Astronauts go into space with a SpaceX recycled rocket.

Four astronauts made history by reaching space aboard a fully recycled rocket.

It was launched by NASA in partnership with Elon Musk's company, SpaceX.

They were the first humans driven by a fully reused ship. Space X had already done this with cargo in 2017.

Crew

Crew-2 astronauts Shane Kimbrough, Megan McArthur, Akihiko Hoshide and Thomas Pesquet were launched into space by the same Falcon 9 booster rocket in November on the Crew 1 mission.

The international crew, including the first French commander and an astronaut the Japanese space agency JAXA, took off on Friday, 23, the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The Crew Dragon team does a six-month science mission to the space station.

SpaceX will command the spacecraft its mission control center in Hawthorne, California, and NASA will monitor the space station's operations in Houston.

"It has been an incredible year for NASA and our Commercial Crew Program, with three manned launches for the space station since last May," said NASA acting administrator Steve Jurczyk.

“This is another important milestone for NASA, SpaceX and our international partners at ESA - European Space Agency, and JAXA.

“I am very proud of the SpaceX team and honored to partner with NASA and help JAXA and ESA as well. We are excited to be part of the advancement of human space flight, ”said Elon Musk, who is chief engineer at Space X.

Live broadcast

NASA Television, the NASA App and its website broadcast LIVE, the hatch opening and the welcoming ceremony for the crew aboard the orbital outpost.

Crew-2 will join the inhabitants of the ISS, Shannon Walker, Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover and Mark Vande Hei of NASA, as well as Soichi Noguchi of JAXA and Russian cosmonauts Oleg Novitskiy and Pyotr Dubrov.

For a short time, the number of crew on the space station will increase to 11 people until Crew-1 astronauts Walker, Hopkins, Glover and Noguchi return a few days later.
