The positive environmental impact can be immense: if the law is well applied, it can generate more than 500 billion new trees in a single generation

The mission of elementary and high school and even of the university is to train students not only for the job market, but for life. That is why the new law recently passed in the Philippines should serve as an example for the whole world: it is no longer a matter of just getting the best grades, but of respecting and caring for the world in which we live, so trainees must plant at least 10 trees as part of the graduation ceremony, in addition to objectively combating global warming.

The new bill foresees that, in addition to making this tradition official, the positive environmental impact can be immense: if the law is well applied, it could generate more than 500 billion new trees in a single generation. This number seems inflated, but the author of the law, Gary Alejano, did the math: “With more than 12 million students studying in the first grade, approximately 5 million in the second and almost 500,000 in colleges annually, this initiative guarantees at least 175 million new trees every year, ”said the parliamentarian.

According to Alejano, even the most pessimistic of the projections will still be a true environmental revolution: “Even with a survival measure of only 10% of the trees planted, 525 million will be available for the enjoyment of young people, even before they take the lead in the future .

The trees will be ed according to each location and should be planted in existing forests, protected areas, military spaces, mining points and urban facilities, with the aim of raising awareness for future generations and, mainly, helping to save the planet.
